Type arrangement games!

have you ever... think that "shit, why I never think that before?"
Apparently, it just happen to me....

As my project has been develop, start by focus toward readers' behaviors, their reading process, and their perceptions. Now, start in semester 2, I'm focusing my project toward the designers, trying to help them understand about the good design elements to make reading efficiency comes true. Hoping that this project will be useful for design students, typographers, and for everyone who seriously thinks about designing textual information.

so I tried... I'm trying to make designers back into old rules... but HOW?
Indeed, asking people to read is never EASY, especially when the readers do not have the interest to the subject of the text that I gave to the. Asking designers to read a bunch of words? text and analysis? HOW? HOW? HOW?

then I found out there are super cool games that had been created by Jason Franzen. It is a iphone games about KERN, take a look:

Indeed, this could help designers learn more about kerning, one of type arrangements that are very... very important for reading efficieny.

Question in Facebook

I think this is a new feature in Facebook... since I'm using survey monkey in semester 1, I thought of doing another survey in Facebook. However, this is a trial question because I want to see the participation. Only three people have answered my question so far... therefore, I decided to use survey monkey again! However, after I had done surveys, I realized that it might because the question trial that I wrote in Facebook is has a obvious answer! Since I thought this is only trial, I didn't think about it at the first! ugh..

Eye tracking

Eye-tracking research continued and led to better understanding in how our eyes and minds cooperate in digesting literature, problems, and images. It began to distinguish important differences in print and screen design.

For many years, eye-tracking was used as a tool in education research and by medical researchers and physicians more than anywhere else because it was so expensive. It wasn’t until later in the century that it became more accessible to a new niche: marketers.

Eye-tracking used for marketers and designers

In the 1980s, marketing groups really began using eye-tracking to measure the effectiveness of ads in magazines. Eye-tracking was able to determine what parts of a magazine page were seen, which elements of the page were actually read, and how much time was spent on each part. I found this interesting video about eye tracking in youtube:

Sadly, I don't have the machine to do my surveys. However, I was told each respondent to hold their pen or highlighter as they read the passage. I asked them not to pull their pen, remember the blind drawing? it has the same concept, except... they not do it blindly.

Where did it all start?

When I was child, I always wish to be a hero... superman, spiderman, or ironman (why it always to be a man? haha). It is a time where you hope someday you could make a world a better place for everyone. So, this wishes still, somewhere, live inside my mind.

As a designer (still graphic design student tho..), I hope I could give a solution to the world. Therefore, I had chosen reading efficiency topic as my final project. It has been carefully develop.. start from semester one, where it all just started from a few of 10 small issues, ideas and thoughts from my surroundings. See the diagram process below (click it if you want to read it):

The reason is pretty simple, as we all know, reading is a initial activity in human life, for example, by reading this post, you're already do this activity right?
